El Salvador Cerro Las Ranas Honey Processed
Apaneca · Ahuachapán · El Salvador
The vibe: First of all, the name. Cerro Las Ranas means "the Hill of Frogs" — named after the lagoon on the farm that's literally home to thousands of frogs. So yes, your morning cup has an origin story that involves a frog lagoon in the Salvadoran highlands, and honestly that's already a better story than most people's coffee. The Salaverria family has been running this farm with obsessive attention to detail for years, from year-round farm management all the way to the cupping lab, and it shows. This was one of the early adopters of honey processing back when it was still considered cutting edge
What you'll taste A lovely floral and citrus brightness with a delicate touch of sweet red fruit sneaking in from the honey processing — subtle and elegant.
The kind of coffee that rewards you for paying attention. And even when you don't, it's still really good.
How it drinks
- Body: Crisp and lively
- Acidity: Moderate and sweet-edged
- Best for: Genuinely versatile — pour over to let those florals and fruit shine, drip or French press for a smooth everyday cup. Espresso is also really something.
Who should grab this bag?
- You want a slightly exotic everyday drinker that doesn't require a PhD to enjoy
- You enjoy nutty, chocolatey balance with just a touch of fruit and sweetness
- You appreciate a farm with an actual frog lagoon and a great backstory
- Skip if you only do super dark roasts — you'll lose the honey processing magic entirely
